Some martial arts award belts for 'time served'.
This is preposterous.
A beginner is a beginner no matter how many years they attend class.
Awarding a certificate of attendance is meaningless. It is not worth the paper
it is written on.
If you want to move past the beginners grade then there is only one answer:
pass belts and move on.
