Since the dawn of time dancers, singers, comedians, actors, poets, writers,
musicians, athletes and artists have amused and thrilled us with their talents.
Performance is the act of entertaining somebody else.
It requires a certain
self-consciousness.
An awareness of the audience and a desire to please the
spectators.
Now ask yourself: does this definition fit a martial art? Is this what
martial arts are
really about?
The danger with performance art is that the performer can sometimes take
themselves far too seriously.
Singing a song is hardly comparable to helping the needy, the sick or seeking a
cure for cancer.
